Top hiking tours in the Wilder Kaiser region
The backpack is ready. More than 200 marked hiking trails in Ellmau and the Wilder Kaiser region lie ahead for hiking enthusiasts. The variety of tours in our region ranges from leisurely hikes to breathtaking summit ascents. Our hiking tips:
Hike to the Rübezahl-Alm (mountain hut): The trail leads directly past the hotel and up through the forest to the Rübezahl-Alm (mountain hut), at an altitude of 1,173m. If you would like to extend the tour a little further, you can add the sculpture hiking trail (Schnitzfiguren-Wanderweg) from the Rübezahl-Alm to the mountain station on the Hartkaiser mountain.
One of the very popular hikes for our guests is the tour on the Wilder Kaiser to the Ellmauer Tor, a rock saddle that can also be seen from the Kaiserhof. A challenging tour for which you should wear good walking shoes.
Biedringer Platte circular hike: This easy hike of approx. 13 km starts in the centre of Ellmau and takes you past the golf course up from the valley to the Biedringer Platte viewpoint. When you get there, it'll be time for a break.
Hike to the Ackerlhütte (mountain hut) over the Stiegenbach waterfall - This hike, which is just under 10 km, requires a good level of fitness although it offers several great vantage points, such as at Mahlereck and Bergsteigergrab.
The region's energy spots - lakes, alpine pastures and vantage points - are also top destinations for cycling tours. Ride your mountain bike, for example, northwards into the peaceful nature reserve of the Kaiser Mountains. Above Going, at the foot of the Maukspitze (mountain peak), lies the Schleier Waterfall - a worthwhile stop.
Combine cycling excursions with a swimming stop at a lake or ride to a farmed alpine pasture - or both. From the Hintersteiner Lake to the west of Scheffau you can get to Walleralm (a mountain restaurant) by mountain bike.
Mountain bikes may be transported in the cable cars on the Astberg, Hartkaiser, Brandstadl and Salvenberg mountains.

E-biking from Ellmau
Our Wilder Kaiser region is part of the world's largest e-bike region, namely, the "Kitzbühel Alps and Kaiser Mountains". For example, follow the trail of the film locations for ‘Der Bergdoktor’ (German-Austrian medical TV drama series) from Ellmau over to Going , or cycle with motor assistance to Kitzbühel or Kufstein. Our suggestion for sporty e-bikers: The 83 km long Kaiser circular cycling route.
Our guests can rent e-bikes from our partners in the Wilder Kaiser region. At the Kaiserhof reception we would be pleased to help with the organisation. You can charge your own e-bikes in our garage.
